The five rules to success are the rules to be successful at anything in life.

Everyone wants to be successful in this thing we call life. You can apply these rules to any part. Of your life, and you will become successful. So, before I jump ahead of myself, let me define success. What is success? Success is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. Success is the result of a project when it is finished. Success is different for different people. Your success can be different from my success, but there is a 1% of the world that everyone can agree that they are successful and for this blog that the success that I am talking about is the kind of success that when it is seen, no one can not say you are successful.

I was asked a question one day, how do you know you made it? The answer to that question is when you are living your purpose.

When you live your dream and do what you feel, you were put on this earth to do. I believe that everyone on this earth has something special about us, something that we do better than anybody, and this is what makes you; therefore, you were put on this earth, and only when you find that thing this is when you find success and happiness. Time is significant, so never allowing anyone to waste your time is the one thing we can never get back. But again, that is for another blog, so with that said, let’s jump right into it. With that said, I will jump into the blog’s core, the key to success; the first point is to start now. This is a big one.

Do not wait until you are ready because you will never be prepared.

If you are waiting until you are ready, you will never start. If you are waiting for the money, you will never begin. The key is to start now if what you have now. Now is the keyword. You don’t wait too long because the next idea will come to your mind and this thing we call life will take over and by the time we look up now we have more reason why we cannot start, see this thing called life will never be just right. Every morning we wake up, we are in a battle with life, and at the end of the day, you have too many sure you are a winner. You must make sure you win. And the way you win. It would be best if you took control of your life.

Don’t let life take control of you. Start now!

Start working on your dreams, your goals, and your purpose. Now! Now! Now there is a whole life out there, and time is not on your side. Some will stop you from starting that business, your dreams, and your goal. It would help if you were unstoppable. It would help if you let nothing stand in your way. There will never be a perfect time than now. Start now, not next year, not tomorrow. It is imperative to start now. That is one of the essential points to the key to success.

The following key point is discipline.

Discipline is vital for being successful. Anything in life takes discipline. We know what it takes to get what we want and need.

The key is disciplining ourselves to get what we want and need.

L. Free

For example, to pass a test, you must discipline yourself to study. If you don’t study hard, you will not pass that test. There is no getting around it without discipline. You want a job. You must get out there and look for the job you want. My grandfather always said, “You never want the sun to rise, and you are still in bed. There is always something you can do with your time”. The earlier you get up, there will be more time to get things done what you need to get done.

This was his way of disciplining himself. Another wise man once said, “If you don’t have a job and need a job. Your full-time job should be looking for a job.”

I had a salesman man call me a long time ago to sell me some items. Whenever he calls, I will hang up the phone or let it go to voice mail. He kept calling, and I was thinking, when will this guy get the message that I am not buying anything from him and stop calling me. He happened to call one day when I was home; I saw the out-of-state area code and knew it was him calling.

I ignored his call and let the voicemail answer it. He left a message, saying, “Mr. Free, I don’t mean to bother you, but I have called you one hundred times. I have talked to you two times, and you told me to call you back because it was not a good time. I have left 50 messages on your voicemail. I will not stop going notes until I talk to you, sir. I will call you back tomorrow. Thank you, sir. With that being said, I was shocked. I did not realize that he had called that many times. But I was impressed by his tenacity to sell his items. I was also shocked that he didn’t give up. He proved to be determined and disciplined to stay focused on his goal.

Another example of discipline is in the form of weight loss. It will help if you reduce your eating and exercise more.

I am referring to a young person that is in excellent health. I am not referring to someone with a medical history and why they cannot lose weight because we live in a world. This book is meant to uplift and motivates you in a positive direction. Yet losing weight is one of the hardest things for most people. Why is something so easy to some yet so hard for others? It all comes down to discipline. The more you discipline yourself, the more you will lose weight. Side note: when it comes to weight loss, always discuss it with your doctor.

The following key point is sacrifice.

What are you willing to give up to meet your goal? Are you ready to eat less to lose weight? Are you willing to exercise more and stop drinking at the weekend? Are you willing to stop eating fast food? What are you ready to give up to lose weight successfully? When saving money, are you going to stop eating out? Will you sacrifice and stay in on the weekend? Are you willing to work an extra 40 hours to be able to buy that rental property? I always talked to people about their dreams and the business they wanted to start.

Unfortunately, people have more excuses than income.

Once, a person told me that everyone could find an excuse not to do what they needed to do. The people that get up and get the job done without making excuses are the successful people in life. People always say I don’t have the money to start my business. My answer to that is you don’t need an eight-hundred-dollar car payment. What is more important, the eight-hundred-dollar car payment or starting your business? Because when you discipline yourself, you sacrifice the need to buy something you will be a tie to for the rest of your life.

Working hard to pay bills, most people are stuck in this circle. Working day and night to pay bills for some is a success because when their friends come over, they can see if they have a big house and a big car but are happy to work two or even three jobs.

Everyone wants to be in the spotlight but doesn’t want to sacrifice to stay in the spotlight.

Someone once said that people spend all their time looking rich and offering to become rich. So, to establish in your mind that I must sacrifice and that I need to cut things out of my life. It would help if you decided that I want this more than hanging out and chasing women. It would be best if you consciously decided to discipline yourself to accomplish your goals.

I need to sacrifice to accomplish my goal, and some people might be cutting back on spending, while others might be trying to save more money.

For some people, it might mean increasing your income by getting a second job. A perfect example is Person A and Person B. Person A decides that he will sacrifice going out every Friday and Saturday night. Person B decides he wants to enjoy his life and go out every Friday and Saturday night. They both dream of opening a donut shop at the end of the year. Person A has increased his income by working a second job and cutting back on his expenses. So, Person A could save $1000 a month by cutting back on his expenses and downgrading his lifestyle. He was also able to increase his income by working on the weekends.

Person A is saving about $2000/month. Person B said that he’s not making any money to save. He cannot give up his weekend because he’s having so much fun, and life is short. And he wants to live now. He enjoys hanging out at nightclubs and chasing women. At the end of the year, Person A and B hold onto their dream of owning a donut shop. Which one do you think will be more successful in opening their donut shop, and which one do you think will be more successful in business in general? Life is full of sacrifices. We must sacrifice to get what we want in life.

Everybody would be doing it if it were easy, but it’s not. That’s why there’s only 1% of the population is wealthy. This is the reason why sacrifice is significant.

We have discussed discipline and sacrifice. The next one is my favorite, and why it’s my favorite is that you can have all the money in the world and have nowhere to put it. You want something in your life that makes you wake up every morning. Something that you can’t wait to get started. And this one is addiction. I love the word addiction because if I walk up to any person and tell them that I have an addiction, they would think it is bad, but addiction can be a good thing. We have been programmed to see addiction as problematic. The definition of addiction is the act or condition of being addicted to a substance thing or activity. You want to be addicted to your dreams, goals, purpose, and business. You want to be addicted to success.

To be successful at anything in life, you want to be addicted to it.

You want to sleep with it on your mind. You want to eat it. You want to drink it. You want to enjoy it. It will help if you become addicted to success. You want to be more addicted than a druggy. A person that’s on drugs will do anything to get that drug.

That person might rob their mom to get the drug, which is the mindset you want to have when it comes to success. This is how you want to be regarding your dreams and goals. You want to do anything, legally, of course, to get your dreams and goals off the ground. A drug addict has no legal restrictions and will do anything to get to their drug of choice.

What separates you from a drug addict is that you are operating from a legal standpoint and want positive things in your life.

You see the result of a drug-addicted person. They will do anything for that drug. Are they successful at being drug addicts? Unfortunately, most drugs addicted people are successful at being drug-addicted, so imagine this if you apply the same principles to your business, your dreams, your goals, and your future, you will be successful. You’ll be just as successful as the drug addict. There are good addictions as well as bad addictions. Applying good addictions is the key to a successful life and business.

The next key point is obsession. What is an obsession? It’s the state of being obsessed with someone or something, and the something we are talking about is a success. The irony about obsession and addiction is that they are almost the same, and you have discipline and sacrifice, similar to hard work.

Obsession, just like addiction, you want to be obsessed with success.

With an obsession, you want to do anything that will get the job done. Like a boxer in a boxing match that keeps getting knocked down but keeps getting back up. He refused to lose the match, no matter how many times he goes down before the 10 counts. He will get up again – obsessed with winning—the same thing with life.

No matter how bad life gets, we must be obsessed with success. It is just like people coming from another country. They are obsessed with coming over to the United States that they are willing to do the unthinkable to move here. Some people travel on an inner tube for miles by water to make it here. They are so obsessed that they don’t see the danger. All they see is a success. If this is not an obsession, I don’t know what obsession is.

My five rules to success are discipline, sacrifice, addiction, hungry, and obsession.

L. Free

You can apply these rules to any part of your life you will be successful.

You can apply this in your marriage, relationships, finances, and business. Any way you apply this, you will be successful. The final one is hunger/starvation. You want to be hungry. You want to be starving for success. There was a famous cartoon character from back in the day, and there was a boxing match; everyone else was fighting for money, and he was fighting for a sandwich. He’s fighting for a sandwich taught me about hunger—a hunger for having a successful business.

Do people always ask why foreigners come to this country and become more successful than America’s citizens?

The answer to that question is hunger. You have to be hungry for success. Immigrants will cross an ocean to come to this country. They must be hungry to cross a desert at 120 degrees walking for days, not knowing if they will make it or not. Not knowing if you will be able to eat or drink, you starving. You are starving for success. If you ask me, the people doing that are halfway successful already. That is the mindset you need to be successful. You got people crossing the ocean desert because they want the American dream. Suppose this is not addiction sacrifice, discipline, obsession, and hunger. I don’t know what it is.

You can imagine a person walking across the desert with no water. That is crazy, but that’s what makes a successful person. You can imagine a person floating on an innertube from one country to another. They are applying those principles already. Once these rules are in motion, you are rolling. You have no choice but to be successful. Failure is not an option.

It would help if you told yourself failure is not an option. You want to control your situation. These people are controlling the situation they planned, and they follow through with it. They applied all five rules.
